That was a while ago. Both Rogers and Bell have been forced to allow
networks on their line. In fact, both companies now push their
wireless router/modem combos.

The joys of dirty lines. The tech who came to hook up our high speed
connection warned me that there was a good chance that there would be
problems with the wiring in our house. So far so good! (...
independent contractor so he didn't have much to gain by talking up
Bell, but he did know what he was talking about b/c our lines are
"hanging by a thread"... since they haven't caused problems so far and
we plan to move out of here by September I haven't bothered to replace
the wiring).

Do you perhaps have a fixed IP address? (though, I have the same IP
with Bell HSE for months on end even though its dynamic IP (of course,
I do live in a big city ;-)).
I find it rather amusing that I'm bordering on defending Bell and/or
Rogers (since I can't stand either corporation's customer service and
business practices... I have a hatred for monopolies). Yeah, some
people have problems with them, but, if you want a full-fledged
support department with 24 hour service, and country-wide access
numbers they do provide that.
Anyway, YMMV regardless of the company you're with. I'm not happy with
Bell but I'm also not unhappy with them. Their $25/month for 5 mo
special has now ended and I've been too lazy to arrange a switch (I
also *never* use their extra features... I don't even know the
password for my erdunbar@xxxxxxxxxxxx e-mail account (with 2 GB of
space) ;-). Perhaps I should just call up Toronto Free Net and get it
over and done with (they're a not-for-profit that offers ADSL for
$37.50/mo and offer fixed IP with no monthly caps).
Eric.
