[muglo] Re: Beg pardon! Help requested

There is some truth to what David says, but it's overblown.

First off, if your e-mail does not have an attachment, your recipients have
nothing to worry about, regardless of the poor Micro$erf security
mechanisms. No code is contained in such an e-mail.

But, since we are *entirely* immune to Windows viruses (thus we'd never
notice them), we can pass them on to those unsuspecting Winlosers.

There are a few simple rules of thumb to use if you don't know how to
recognise a virus.

1. Do you know what attachments to your e-mail are? If yes, then FWD away
and let people know that the e-mail is safe. For e.g. is it a JPEG, GIF,
TIFF, .vcf or HTML file?

2. If you don't know what attached files are, then you should probably not
be forwarding the file.

3. People who use those irritating .vcf files should be shot!!! (they're
"signatures") or who use background images and/or HTML in their e-mail
should be keelhauled, quartered, tarred and feathered, and *then* shot (HTML
use in e-mail should constitute an offence punishable by summary execution).

4. If the attachments are under 50 K they will not be a virus. I've not seen
Windows viruses in recent years that are that small.

Ok, # 3 is an off-topic rant ;-).

One other thing -- any WInblows users should (a) "format c:", (b) sell the
computer to some unsuspecting shmuck, (c) buy a Mac, or (b #2) install
Linux.

I guess they could also stop using a Microsoft e-mail applications. Other
e-mail apps (like Eudora) are significantly safer on the Windoze platform.

Also, get the Windoze loser to set maximum web security in Internet
Explorer. Microsoft products with their problematic Visual BASIC security
should be kept on a short leash.

Eric.
