[muglo] Re: B&W or PC?

Unfortunatly many of the PC products (expansion cards) aren't compatable
out of the box. Most things require a firmware flash. In the years when
I used to manage a PC store, I saw one too many bad firmware flashes
come into the shop. I have an Adaptec 29160 that was a month old before
the server it was in at work was retired, replaced by an Xserve (cripes
those things are loud) and it will not work in it. It is identical to
the Powerdomain 29160, requiring only a firmware flash, but I am
certainly not going to flash a card that cost close to $600 on the off
chance I cook the card.

Office X is roughly the same as Office XP (and, if you get it from an
academic supplier, the Mac version is cheaper than the Windows version).

Nearly *all* Mac hardware is now generic. There aren't really any
Mac-only
products out there anymore (well, maybe the ADB->USB converter won't
have
much use on a Windoze machine... though, I have heard of people using it
to
get their Extended Keyboards working on Windoze machines ;), especially
on
the inside. DVD players/burners, HDs, RAM, PCI cards, they're all
cross-platform compatible (I think that's half of what saved Apple's
bacon
-- the other half is OS X).
