Good initiative, Terry. This could turn out to be very useful.
A question about the tip on how to force-quit when Command-Option-Escape
doesn't work: what's the Dock icon?
Also, a final option in such cases, when even the shut-down command won't work:
unplug. It's amazing how many people panic and call IT support instead.
