I would normally throw a hissy fit and hit the delete key if I saw someone
doing what I just did but I'm going to do it to highlight how "only a few
lines of text" can make a *huge* difference, especially in "short" e-mails
(i.e. anything under say 40 lines which is longer than 90% of the e-mails
here) do those few lines make a *big* difference in terms of the volume of
material that requires skimming [fweew, run-on].
PS I'm glad to see that my hatred of e-mail HTML is justified (though, I'm
disappointed my Netscrape guess was off the mark :( :( :(.
PSS Micro$loth is apparently heeding the message of disgruntled non-HTML
users (like me) and turning off HTML e-mail composition in Outlook Express =
7
for Winblows as default (no sign of a newer OE for Mac :( :( :(, and allows
users to *prevent* HTML from being displayed at all.
People who use HTML in e-mail should be flogged, horse whipped,
drawn-and-quartered, and perhaps tarred-and-feathered as well (well, ok,
perhaps it's not that much of a transgression but... :) :) :).
PSSS For those other anti-HTML e-mail curmudgeons out there, a few polite
complaints to a repeat offender often generate results. In our departmental
barrage of crap e-mail (10-20 "announcements" per day... e-mail abuse, I
think so!) someone decided to start "prettying" up their e-mail with HTML. =
A
few polite (& I gather not-so-polite) complaints stopped that transgression
_immediately_ (I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in despising incompetent
HTML use).
BTW Euro -- please do not take this in any way, shape of form as an attack
on you. I was wondering for a while what was up with your e-mails and
eventually just got used to them. Believe it or not, but your fully quoted
e-mails (including your text) are easier to read than 90% of the HTML
e-mails I get (b/c the HTML coding was stripped from your e-mails by the
mailing list software I didn't have to live by someone else's
font/size/background choice).
L8r, Eric.
