I don't even pretend to be able to trouble-shoot your problems on e-mail.
1. What PowerBook G3 is it (what speed and what ports on the back -- SCSI or
FireWire)?
2. What OS(es) is(are) on the computer?
3. What exactly do you mean when you say doesn't start reliably? Does it
always turn on? (I can't quite get that one) i.e. green light, fans, HD,
screen, etc. Or do you get nothing?
You should be able to get replacement parts for a *lot* cheaper than what
Mac Outpost quoted you. Check out <http://www.pbparts.com/>
<http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/catalog/parts.html>
<http://www.powerbookguy.com/> <http://www.pbfixit.com/cart/customer/>
Even check out eBay. You can get the power supply/sound card for 1/5 the
price Apple gouges.
Eric.
