You don't need to get the bottom off, there are no connections
underneath the board.

Sort of, but it requires very careful removal of the top, as the battery
is under the left side, above the left bay. All that battery runs is the
clock & 3 other minor items, forget them now, but if it is faulty it
just means that you have to reset the clock at every boot!
