[muglo] 100% OT (non-computer) beef vs. the cholesterol study

I couldn't pass up the irony in the news reports:
I read the "cholesterol study" that was published in the JAMA earlier today
(www.jama.com... if you don't have university (or personal) access you will
only be able to read the abstract) which suggests that a diet high in soy
protein (soy milk, soy-containing veggie burgers, etc), oats, barley, okra
and a few other foods was as effective at lowering cholesterol levels as a
popular cholesterol (lovastatin) lowering drug.
I just saw a piece on it on TV, and promptly thereafter saw a story where
the beef producers were trying to get people to eat "*lots* and *lots* of
beef".
I guess it's the same principal (or is that le) as SUVs and emissions -- car
emission controls have improved over the last 30 years, but SUVs use so much
more fuel than more compact cars that all the gains have been wiped out by
the increase in use of SUVs (& minivans).
Anyway, as I warned this was totally non-computer related. I just thought it
was rather perverse to see both stories that close together.
Eric.
