[mso] Re: word brackets

these are crop marks:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839371 explains.

Word documents appear with crop marks (margin marks) in each corner. The
problem occurs if you have Asian languages enabled:

     Chinese (Traditional)

     Chinese (Simplified)

     Japanese

     Korean

This is different to the Text Boundary, which puts a box around the entire
page at the margins. Text boundary setting is found under Tools ? Options,
View tab.

To remove crop marks in Word 2003, first remove the text boundaries. Then:

Click on Start ? All Programs ? Microsoft Office ? Microsoft Office Tools ?
Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings.
Select and remove all languages not used. Leave English (Australian).
Click OK.
In Word 2002,

Click on Tools ? Options.
Select the View tab.
Untick Text Boundaries.
Click on Start ? All Programs ? Microsoft Office Tools ? Microsoft Office XP
Language Settings.
Remove all languages not used. Leave in English (Australian).
Click OK.

my blank (actually all) word documents have 4 'brackets' , one in each
corner and they move when I move my margins. Think what the little holders
in an old photo album looked like. I don't know where they are, or how to
get rid of them. I've looked all throught the different formatting and I'm
stumped.

Also, i seem to keep getting messages that my 'normal.dot' has changed,
then global changes seem to being made, when I close the program. I alway
say, 'no', but it keeps happening. Maybe this is related to the mysterious
brackets!
Is there a normal. dot on the original CD that I should re-load, and
why/how do I seem to be changing it? Finally, I would love my blank word doc
which I use for business letters to have todays date in the upper right hand
area. Wonder if I can make that happen?! Thanks in advance!!

No one has asked about this type of issue that I've seen recently but its
turned to be such a nice trick I thought I'd share it.
