PROPER is a function that modifies font case capitalizing the first
character of each word in the string and return lowercase for all other
alpha characters.
To see this work, in a sample spreadsheet, in cell A1, type ABC123 in
cell B1, enter this function: =3DPROPER(A1) =20
the result displayed in B1 will be Abc123. if you enter 123ABC in cell
A1, the result in B1 will be 123Abc.
If you have a column of data using the PROPER function, it displays
normally so highlight and copy that column then edit/paste/paste
special/value to have what you see be the actual cell value.
hope this helps. /g

Subject: [mso] uppercase text problem in Excel 2003
Hi folks,
We have an Excel file containing contact information - i.e. one column
for Name, one for Street Address, etc. All the text has been entered
entirely in capital letters but we want it to be in normal case so we
can make mailing labels from it. The file was created by someone else
who is saying that he converted the caps into lowercase using a "proper"
function in Excel - I'm not sure what that is. When you click on one
cell, the formula bar shows Proper(B6) so we are having trouble editing
the cell contents. Also this seems rather silly - we just want the text
to be normal. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks,
Elise
