[mso] smallest document

I have written an instruction sheet that I need to send to an e-mail list=
 of
interested persons. These pages are written with many captured diagrams
pasted in. I have to make the document as universal as possible because
everybody has a different version of word. I wrote the document in word 2=
002
 =0D
When saved as  *.doc in 2002 the size is 620K. If I transfer it to *.rtf =
it
becomes 14 mb (yes MB). Any ideas as to the reason for this huge jump in
size? Is there anything that can be done to enable me to send a reasonabl=
y
sized document that all can read?=0D
