When you look at the outlook log file you should see a reference to your
outlook program 'syncing' with the server. It gets a list of message 'ID
#s'from the server (called a blob) and it then compares the items on this
list to the messages that are already downloaded. If it finds a message in
the blob that it got from your server that it has not downloaded then
downloads that message. If your Outlook program is working at all you
should see evidence of these transactions when they are successful in the
logfile. Look in the log file to see if you have any entries that even
vaguely lead you to believe that there is something wrong. This is where
looking at the successful entries comes in. Once you are familiar with what
it looks like when it works, you should be able to spot it when it doesn't.
Does the log show any message ID#s on the server as part of the sync
process? does it show the same message on the server for 2 or more cycles?
(assuming you have outlook set to delete messages from the server) . Is
there any mention anyplace in the logs of a communication problem? user
authentication problem?
Assuming a 'no' answer to all these questions...
If you are not receiving messages... the first thing you need to answer is
how do you know that the message is actually available for downloading?
justknowing that it is 'sent' to you is not good enough. There are too many
potential points of failure between the sender and you for you to conclude
that you have an outlook problem. If your ISP has a web mail portal... use
it to check on your inbox. If you can see a message in your webmail inbox
but you can't get to it with outlook then and only then would I look for a
outlook issue.
I see from your email address that you are a comcast customer... they
generally have very good customer support and they do log all their email
traffic. If your logs don't show that you are having an outlook /
communication issue then the next step is to get their customer support
people involved. You need to see if email that you are sending or receiving
is making it to the next layer. If you give them specific info (address
thatthe email came from or went to, approximate time, etc) then they can
search their logs to see if the message made it into or out of their system.
Try to be as specific in the description of the problem as possible. A
general statement like 'I am missing messages' doesn't give them anything
that they can work on and they will probably not be able to help you.

Re:outlook not sending mail Probably the most relaible way to troubleshoot
this kind of problem is = =3D to turn on email logging from within MS
Outlook. see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300479[13] This is going to

what has happened. But... once you turn this option on.. be careful... it
will create a = =3D=20 huge file very quickly. Mike Clare Has this only just
started happening? Does web browsing (e.g. Internet Explorer) work reliably?
Is Outlook giving any kind of error message? Does it crash? Does=20 it=3D20
just sit there? If it sits there, what do you need to do to=20 close it? =3D
Do you have more than one e-mail account attached to Outlook? Does=20 it =3D
fail on one only, or on all of them? Will it receive mail even though it
won't send mail (i.e. after send=20 =3D fails but before you restart
Outlook)? What do you see if you do a send/receive mail (F9)? Is Outlook
going directly to the Internet or are you going through=20 Exchange or some
other e-mail server? Have you changed ISPs recently or changed anything
else?(Not saying that answers to these questions will guarantee an answer. =
=20 =3D :-) But you never know.) Regards, Dave S ----- Original Message
