[mso] Re: (no subject)

Although Linda is gonna jump in and bust heads for discussing a nonOffice
app here...I just have to giggle about this cos' my first MVP summit was in
Spring of 1996 shortly after Bill "recently" realized the Internet "might"
become important<g>...and we were told about (under NDA) about the new
"Newsreader" that they were working on that we would now need to learn to
use because the MS tech support forums on CompuServe were moving to...the
Internet! Amongst grumbles against change<g>...we watched a presentation on
how to use this "new MS Newsreader" app...called Outlook Express! OH, and it
would also support basic email functions! ;-)

Now, of course, everyone knows OE and its incarnations as an email client,
but it was pretty much designed to allow people to access/use newsgroups on
the net, which is why it was basically an add-on for Internet Explorer. And
why there used to be an icon in IE to open OE when you wanted to converse in
a newsgroup (what forums and places like Facebook were back then). AND...why
when you click Tools > Options > Programs Outlook Express is listed as your
default Newsgroup reader.

See more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlook_Express#History for those of
you geeks.

That's all for our history lesson today...you'll be quizzed later. ;-)
