Thanks for the link, but in my case, the problem is not with someone  
manually filling out a form using Word as described in your article, but with  
a with 
merge document using Access, Excel, or even a Word document  data source.
 
... the merge field that is underscored has it's underscores misaligned  with 
the leading and trailing underscores around the merge field.
