[mso] formating word art in publisher

hi all,
i have a small problem. when i open a blank page in publisher and go to 
insert/picture/word art and try to format the word art by right clicking it, 
i am unable to click on or choose any of the options that are on the 'format 
word art' window, it comes with an error saying not a valid measurement. 
however when i log on as a domain administrator i am able to click on and 
use any of the options or tabs. i cannot possibly make my users 
administrators because i work in a school. i have tried giving domain users 
modify permission on the hard drive but it is still not happy. Any ideas 
anybody???
