[mso] Re: converting wpd files to word doc files.

As was mentioned... a wpd extension probably means that this is a
wordperfect file. The acid test (if it is important to you) is to look
at the first 4 bytes of the file using a hex viewer. If it is a
wordperfect file it will have the following hex characters 'FF 57 50
43'. The format convertors that ship with MS Office generally do a good
job but you may have to explicitly tell the installation program to
install them.

Back when Wordperfect was owned by Corel they published a freeware
WordPerfect Viewer. I can't find it on their website but you might be
able to find a copy floating around the net somewhere.

If all you want to do is read the WPD file... the Adobe site offers a
online conversion utility at
https://createpdf.adobe.com/cgi-feeder.pl/formats?BP=&LOC=en_US This
will convert any of a large number of file formats (including wdp files)
into PDF documents. It is a subscription service but you can try up to
5 conversions for free.

If you are still stumped... you might try to convert the document from
WPD to DOC using OpenOffice.
