[mso] Word2003: Grouping Spoils Layout

To All,

Using Word2003, sometimes when I group a graphic image with a text box under
it (for caption), the combined object insists on attaching itself to the top
of the page and the Layout tab in the Format Picture window is grayed out. Why
does that happen? How can I avoid it without combining the caption with the
graphic to form a single image. IOW, I want the text in the text box to remain
as plain text.

This missing Layout tab occurs only one time in four or five. I don't know why
Word treats this process differently at different locations within the same
document.

Note in all cases, I start by formatting the picture and the text box
(separately) using the advanced mode, and selecting horizontal and vertical
alignments as relative to the page (not as absolute positions).

Thanks for the help.

Ray Shapp
