Thank you Jonathan...David suggested using the Header/Footer option as well,
but I haven't tried that. I will do so.
I'm using the Print Layout View and just used the regular background/color
option.
I will try all the options! =)
Thank you so much!

Camille,
I did a test with Word 2000 and PDF995. The only way I could create a
background color directly using Background --> Color Fill was in Web Layout
view. When I printed the doc as a pdf file then the background was not in
color. In Print Layout View the background was white.
For a new doc in the normal Print Layout View I selected View --> Header and
Footer and added a filled rectangle the total size of the page. I filled it
with a color and chose no line for the border. I exited the Header and
Footer and added some text in the document body. When I printed the result
then the pdf file did contain the "background" color.
I returned to the document Header and Footer and changed the fill of the
rectangle to White Marble. I also experimented with Gradient Fills. I was
able to create some pretty impressive "paper" for writing on and everything
appeared in the pdf file as it appeared in Word.
So, I wonder if when you add color to the background if you might be in Web
Layout View instead of Print Layout View. You might try using the filled
rectangle inserted in the Header and Folder view.

Camille:
I remember something about changing the print order of the headers vs.
the body being related to this problem, but I'm darned if I can find any
reference to this, or where you'd make the setting change.
Well, you've pretty much got me stumped. You can send a copy of the file to
me direcly, if you like: davidDOTchinellATgeDOTcom.
Finally, let me ask how you're creating the PDF. Is it through PDFMaker or
the Adobe PDF printer dummy or through Distiller? And what version of
Acrobat do you have?

Sorry for the delay in responding... I've been caring for my Dad (having
problems from kidney disease) and my ex-husband (Parkinsons)...there aren't
enough hours in the day!
I DID print this document out on my HP Color Laser 4600dn printer... The
background did print. If you would like to see the file I am printing, I'd
be happy to email it...not sure if this group allows 'uploads.'
However, now that I've printed it, the 'background fill' color didn't go
clear out to the edges...and I can understand why (because the laser can't
shoot the ink clear past the edges to color it)...so this is very
interesting. Usually, I only do these types of files for viewing
electronically, not necessarily printing.=20
To refresh... The doc file (Word) prints the background color, but when I
PDF the file, the background does not 'appear.' =3D)

I haven't tried to print this file we are discussing, but I will try that...
And let you know within the hour...(other backgrounds like watermarks print
just fine)...

And can you actually print the background color or image to a paper printer?
