Could it be that your trial period (usually 60 days) for the software has
expired? Seems like you can read-only but cannot edit the document, which is
what happens when the trial period has ended and you have not entered the
license code.

I am using Word 2007 which has until now proved excellent, if rather
frustrating, in having to learn where to find all the bells and whistles are
now hidden!
However I am now finding that I cannot open a document by double clicking its
icon, and when I Open a document from the drop-down menu I cannot select any
text, line or anything within the document with my mouse. I can move the cursor
in the document using key strokes.
When I close a document an error message appears saying Word has stopped
working and must close and then re-opens with a blank document. It also tells
me that Windows will try and find a solution - it has failed so far!
Has anybody else had this problem? Can anyone think of a solution?
I am having to revert to Word 2003 on my laptop until I can sort this!
