Linda,
Sadly, that didn't work. After deleting normal.dot I pulled up the paper I
was writing for class, and not only did Word open without a blank document
or my paper (as would be expected), it just opened without a document (I had
double-clicked on the .docx file). I discovered as I began making suggested
edits that I could not click to move the cursor within Word - I had to use
the arrow keys on the keyboard. I couldn't highlight anything either. I was
able to save my changes, but right after I clicked the X to close word, it
said Microsoft Office was checking for a solution to this problem, then came
up with Microsoft Word is restarting, at which point I just clicked Cancel.
None of the other Office applications are having this problem, and I am
using Outlook 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 frequently.

If you got the message about normal.dot being changed, then that could be
what's causing the problem ... try deleting or renaming normal.dot and see
if that fixes the problem.

Subject: [mso] Word 2007 crashing
Hi all,
Whenever I load up Word 2007, it either opens without opening an existing
document or a new one; or it'll outright crash and close. Any idea what
might be causing this? I have already attempted a full uninstall and
reinstall of Office, and re-updated it with the latest updates and yet it's
still crashing or opening up without a document. There was recently a prompt
about changes to Normal.dot saved, and I haven't made changes. I have run a
full virus scan, and have 2 real-time checkers running (Malwarebytes and
Norton 360). Yet this persists. Any idea on what's wrong or how to fix it?
