You could try this

Close Word and Outlook
Rename c:\documents and settings\username\application
data\microsoft\templates\normal.dotm to, say, oldnormal.dotm

Do the same for normal.dot in the same place (just in case).

Restart Word

It will have lost some or all of the customisations.  It will generate a new
normal.dotm when you make any changes.  It will probably ask to save
normal.dotm when you close Word.  Say yes.
