If you are happy at creating a Macro try the following:
Open up a blank document.
From the Tools menu, select Macro, Record New macro
The macro dialog box opens, just note the default macro name at this stage
Click the Keyboard option, & Hold your Alt key down & press the letter P
NB: Can be any letter, but this is normally not pre-programmed.
Hopefully the "Currently assigned to: " will respond with "Unassigned"
Click the Assign button & then the Close.
Stop the macro
Copy the following text from "Sub MacroName" To & including "End Sub"
Sub PasteDestinationFormat()
' Author: Norman Pearce, Ealing Hospital
' Purpose: to paste clipboard content into the destination
' with the formatting used at the destination point
'
Selection.PasteSpecial DataType:=wdPasteText, Placement:=wdInLine
End Sub
Now goto Tools, Macro, Macros...
Select the macro name that you noted earlier, and press the edit button
Select the whole of the text of your blank recorded macro, commencing with
the Sub Macroname & ending with the End Sub.
Paste the text that you copied from this email to replace the selected text.
Click on the save button and close the window.
Now to test your new macro.
Still in the Blank document that you opened up, on a new line type the
following exactly including the = sign:
=Rand()
This will by default place three paragraphs, with 5 sentences in each of the
Quick brown fox.
A very useful trick for just filling out a new form to judge layout. You
can also use =Rand(P,S) replacing the P with a number to represent the
number of paragraphs required and S with the number of sentences required in
each paragraph.
Select the middle paragraph by clicking 3 times within the para.
Go to the end of you text and on the next blank line change the font to
something completely different say Chancery, hit the Enter key 4/5 times to
create new empty paras but formatted with the Chancery (if that is what you
chose)
Now click into anyone of these empty rows and activate your macro by
pressing the Alt P combination.
Hopefully your Arial or Times New Roman Source text is now displayed in the
destination format.
I am off for a Bowls competition but do let me know how you got on & I will
be back in work early tomorrow if you need further help.
Note whenever you create macro in your Normal Blank document template, it is
a good idea to make a backup for any possible future use or corruption of
Word, but that is another episode.
Have fun.

Thanks to everybody who replied on this. I've got into the groove of = Ctrl
C (or X) and Ctrl V so any other keystrokes are just going to slow me down
further. What I really wanted was to set the default to match = destination
but from the looks of it that=92s not available. Thanks anyway.

Try using the keyboard Alt + E, S, U, U
Holding the Alt key & pressing the underscored letter of a menu heading,
opens that menu. Then without using the Alt key, pressing the series of
underscored = letter to access menu items.
Hope that helps
Not a typist by any means, but I do prefer to use the keyboard wherever
possible.

Hi thanks for this - but is this Kim Robin or Justin? <winks>
Yes I do mean fonts etc. For instance, if I copy from one doc that has
normal style set as Arial 10pt and the normal style in the destination
document is Times New Roman 12 pt, I want it to pick up the destination
formatting without always being asked to confirm it my choice. It's yet
another of those annoying things that takes a true typist's hands away =
from the keyboard hunting for the mouse that I could do without!
Certainly my autotext does NOT deliver this, and I can't see how = SmartTags
would do it either. Paste Special defeats the object also as there is = no
keyboard shortcut for it and it seems like overkill to start creating =
macros for something that IMHO should already exist as an onboard macro!

By formatting, do you just mean font and font size? In my experience,=20
autotext automatically takes on the formatting of the document you are = in.
I
have not had it work any differently.
Smart tags can be used to specify Match Destination Formatting.
I dont know enough about macros to be able to answer that one.
For cut and paste, try using Paste Special and pasting as plain text.
