Well, yes, they could. It's in Word 2002 and it's the automatic drawing
canvas Word tries to insert every time you want to insert a shape or
box.

Fortunately, this 'feature' is a lot easier to kill than Clippy used to
be.

On the subject of 'features', btw, I used to work with a guy who would
insist on calling bugs in his applications 'undocumented features',
which with some clients worked surprisingly often.
