Sorry, but you did have this problem before because Word has always put the
footer in a lighter background layer...the header/footer layer. So it looks
lighter than the rest of the test. If you can't read it...click File/Print
Preview and zoom in and you can see it better before you print.
Otherwise, double click on the footer area to bring it up to the view level
so you can read it and then double click on the main area to close the
header/footer area again.
This is how Word has always been!

Just a guess, but it sounds like you've got field shading on. Trying going
to tools, options, and on the view tab, look for field shading. You should
have 3 options, always, never and when selected. Trying changing it to
never.

I have a problem with my word 2000. When I insert page numbers for any=20
documents that I am creating, the numbers show up with a gray background
and=20 the number is a lighter gray. When I print the document it comes out
normal.=20 The problem I have with this gray background around the page
number is it is=20 very hard to read the page number. I did not have this
problem before and I=20 am wondering what could I have done to cause this
and what can I do to=20 change it back to what I used to be. Please any help
will be appreciated.
