[mso] Word 2000

I have a problem with my word 2000. When I insert page numbers for any 
documents that I am creating, the numbers show up with a gray background and 
the number is a lighter gray. When I print the document it comes out normal. 
The problem I have with this gray background around the page number is it is 
very hard to read the page number. I did not have this problem before and I 
am wondering what could I have done to cause this and what can I do to 
change it back to what I used to be. Please any help will be appreciated.
