[mso] Re: What causes Run-time Errors?

Did you get these errors before or after you changed your normal.dot?

This COULD be a corrupt Normal.dot file...or it could be a virus attempting
to run.

Visual Basic is the programming language that you can not only use to run
Word, but it also is used in it's internal programming, somewhat. So if a
Word command has been corrupted, you could get that error. If you have a
macro virus trying to run, you could get that error if the code can't run
properly. And since they're generic code modules hoping for a good hit, they
can have problems running on some systems.

But also...a likely problem is that you have some addin program installed
that uses Word as it's "client" to create reports or format documents. Adobe
does this with it's acrobat tools. Also...if you have Norton anti virus
installed...it can give you errors cos' the Office addin can stall out
updates to files that would normally not be a problem. Thus, errors...so you
should modify the Office addin from Norton. Or you may have some other
hidden template causing problems.

Here's a test to try to narrow down whether the problem lies within
Normal.dot or some outside template.

* Click Start/Run
* Type the following into the input box in the Run dialog: winword.exe
* Hit the enter key
* Word will open...use it as you normally would and try to recreate the
error.

Use this method to open Word for a couple days and watch for the error. If
it no longer happens...cannot be recreated...then it's an addin template.

If this test doesn't help the problem...then it's an issue with your
Normal.dot. Do NOT delete Normal.dot yet!

Report back with your test results and I can better inform you of your next
steps!

Does anyone know what causes run-time errors and how to stop getting them?
We get seemingly random run-time errors i.e. 5, "Invalid procedure call or
argument" or a sequence of numbers with a message when we open a saved word
doc or a new blank one. Sometimes the box has a VisualBasic Header.
