[mso] Re: Tracking activities in Outlook Journal (2003)

I don't really use the journal cuz I do think it's a resource hog....but,
you might go to Tools>Options and click on the Preferences tab, then click
on the Journal Options button and see how much stuff you have checked in
there....if you have it set to journal everything, including all of the
Office programs, it's definitely going to get bogged down and probably
choke, so you might want to uncheck some of that stuff and try just
journaling one thing at a time or just one category or contact or
something...that should allow you to be able to open it to teach your
students about it...and while you're showing it to them, explain to them
just how much of a pig it is if it's not kept under control (snicker)

Other than that, there's not much I can tell you. The journal works fine on
most machines I've opened it on, but, I never have it trying to do too many
things at once. Also, without knowing other stuff about your installation
of Outlook, it's hard to determine what else could be causing your problem.
Stuff people might need to know to help you more would be stuff like...Are
you using Exchange Server? Is the journal being shared in any way? Do you
have any add-ins installed in Outlook? Stuff like that.

Subject: [mso] Tracking activities in Outlook Journal (2003)

I use Office 2003 (and teach it), and when I turn on the tracking of files
and contacts in the Journal, there is always a long delay before it starts
working - hours to days. I am unable to explain this to my students. Any
ideas what causes this or if there is a fix? I'd like to be able to
demonstrate to my students the Journal actually working.

Also, if I don't use the Journal for a while, it turns off. Then if I go to
it, it prompts me whether I really want to turn it back on. Does anyone
know how long it waits before it turns off again? I'd like to be able to
tell my students.

Thanks.

~Bonita
