Linda, Thanks to you also for your great explanation and tutorial. Using the
'more' button, I opened up the dialog box for the first time in 14 yrs of
using Word, to find the "special" key.  How I missed that expansion is a
mystery. :-)

They are non-breaking spaces.  Default shortcut for them is
ctrl-shift-space.

A simple find/replace of space with space will replace non-breaking (and
breaking) spaces with breaking spaces.

Alternatively, you can type ctrl-shift-space into the "find" part of a
find/replace.  (It'll look like a normal space in the find box, but will
only find the non-breaking spaces.)
