I liked it for a couple reasons. I'll use the MVPs as an example. When I
received mail from them, I didn't have to harvest the address since
Lookout was doing it for me. That served me well for purposes beyond
email (evil laughter, sound of hands rubbing together). On the rare
occasion that I DID want to talk to those worthless louts<g>, It was
nice to know that I had the address at hand without a magical search.
For other folks, I couldn't rely on them having the same email address
forever. Now, I've got some programmer-like qualities. IOW, I'm just
lazy enough to invest in making sure I don't have to repeat painful
processes more than a couple of times. This address harvesting saved me
the trouble of having to write my own app to make sure I've still got
Mr. Yada's address even after I delete his mail to me.
Oh well, to each his own, I suppose. Thinking of why I use Outlook
instead of OE has a single answer; Protecting and migrating message
stores with OE is a massive, unreliable pain in the rump. Outlook will
kindly store all mail and contacts in a single PST, and an address book
in a single PAB. Outlook lets me move my mail file from machine to
machine. It also lets me host several PST files at once which can be
handy. OE makes me sweat for the same functionality. Otherwise, I
wouldn't tolerate Outlook's footprint. In fact, Outlook XP is the first
version that actually checks multiple accounts properly
(asynchronously). All previous versions rotated through my accounts one
at a time and that provided lots of errors before the mail run was
complete. One of the easiest ways to get into trouble with the
serialized old versions was to install the Fax service and then try to
check mail. It was as bad as running Lotus Notes.<g>
Now, if we could only get MSN to comply with at least the Windows 95
logo requirements, all the stuff that delivered with that landmark
package would finally have reached the design goals.
Finally, just so you know how safe you really are, some of the most
vocal complaints about MS products I've ever seen came directly from the
screens of MVPs. So your reputation remains intact and safe.<g>

With thinking this clear, is coding really a good idea?"
