[mso] Re: Slow folder access in Word and Outlook 2003 when inserting/attaching pictures

Your friend probably has the Office plug-in turned on in Norton .... Tell
her to go into Norton's Options and turn that off. Even though she's tried
it with Norton turned off, the plug-in is still working ... The Office
plug-in in Norton is completely redundant and unnecessary and greatly slows
the Office programs down.

Subject: [mso] Slow folder access in Word and Outlook 2003 when
inserting/attaching pictures

(Cross posted to Win Trips and Tricks)

Hi,

I'm asking this for a friend, so I hope all the necessary information is
here. Quoted below is his problem.

"I have any document opened and do Insert-->Picture-->From File. The
"Insert Picture" dialog window comes up right away; however, when I try to
traverse to a different folder the window locks up and takes nearly 5
minutes to show the first selected folder. It then takes about 5 minutes to
traverse to any other folders until I am finally at the folder that contains
the picture where I can insert it.

I have rebooted and get the same results - HELP! I could hand write and
draw the picture on paper quicker than this! AND if I try to use Windows
Explorer on a separate window while I am waiting for Word Picture Insert, it
also is very sluggish (takes like 30 seconds to change to a different
folder).

Also just realized that I have the same problem trying to attach a .JPG to
an Outlook email.

I am using MS Office 2003, Windows XP Home version 2002 SP 2, and running
Norton Internet Security 2006 (have tested with Norton on and off)."

Thanks in advance for any help.

Diane
