[mso] Slow Email

My Outlook GROANS when receiving new email.
I thought it was that I was on a dial up line.
But as a test I've connected through a high speed line.
It takes 10-20 seconds to receive each email, during which time my disk
light remains lit continuously.
Anyone have any idea what is causing this? Have I configured something
wrong?
