[mso] Re: Short cuts

You can definitely have shortcuts for any program installed on your computer. 
There are various ways to do that. one of the simplest might be to click Start 
then Programs find the program you want to create a shortcut to and then right 
click on it and drag it to a place on your desktok. this should open a menu 
with 2 or 3 options "Copy, Move, and maybe Create Shortcut". If "create 
shortcut" exists choose this if not choose copy.

Have you tried just ctrl-dragging the icons out of the start menu onto the 
desktop?  (Or right-button dragging and select copy.) Might not work (Office 
does use some "special" shortcuts), but there's a fair chance that it will 
work OK.
