[mso] Send/Receive button disappears

One day when I started Outlook 2003 SP2, it wouldn't. I got "there is a problem
with MSO and it has been closed" (Vista Home Prem). This happened several
times, so I "Repaired" it. When it opened all my files and settings were gone.
So I set up a new account and imported contacts from my wife's profile. Now I
cannot send or receive email.

When I first start MSO I can see the "Send/Receive" button on the tool bar, but
after a few seconds it disappears. F9 does not do anything, and if I Ctrl+Enter
in a message it puts it in the Outbox but it never goes.

I have tested the account settings and it actually sends the test messages (I
can check the mailbox with a web browser).

I found the following at:
http://www.freelists.org/archives/mso/12-2005/msg00020.html

"You can change those settings in any profile under Tools > Options > Mail
Setup > Send and Receive. I suggest you inspect that dialog box so you can
verify that you now have the settings you need.

Also...under Send and Receive, you'll need to check the accounts you have
setup. These can have many email account...so click Edit and check what you
have linked to it and whether they are all set to respond by sending/receiving."

...and thought it was the answer to my problem, but I can't "Edit" the "All
Accounts" Send/Receive group. "Edit" is not grayed out, but clicking it does
nothing. I added a new group, thinking maybe I could duplicate it, but can't
"Edit" it either, to put any accounts in it.

BTW, MSO works fine under my wife's Windows profile.
