I was hoping for some easy alternative.

Now, I'll remove all the block names (only nine of them) and change the
formulae to reference the matrices by their coordinate ranges.  Each worksheet
has 81 similar formulae that currently use block names.

This raises a different kind of question.  Is there a find & replace function
for modifying a bunch of similar formulae on a worksheet?  For example, I have
nine formulae that refer to "block1" and nine more that refer to "block2" etc.
I'd like to make all the "block1" references become "A1:C2" and all the
"block2" references become "D1:F2".  I tried making a corrected formula in one
cell and then dragging the cell, but that doesn't work because other parts of
the formula contain a constant that should be different for each cell.
