>First, stop thinking Word.<g>

HA! Never!!!

I know they're different and all that and I know that I have to think
differently...just like a WP convert has to do when trying to learn Word.
But there ARE and always will be some things that work across the
suites...some things that are similar across the suites and basic concepts
that I KNOW someone out there will know how to do cos' it's how a software
dev would think to add when creating it!

And I'm further convinced of this not only cos' Lisa just passed me what I
needed to know, but also from my experience when I was trying to learn how
to create a workflow query in Dreamweaver! I go into this huge DW group and
ask about how to get a list of the pages that still need work (Yes,
Linda...cos' I wanted it like how FP does it.<g>) and you would have thought
I was speaking Martian! Sheesh! They just didn't get it. But I KNEW it had
to be in there cos' they would NOT have given you the design notes and then
expected you to have to open every damn page to read those notes. They
wouldn't have provided the NEEDS WORK, DRAFT, FINAL, BETA, drop down list if
they didn't also provide you with a way to query for those fields. I just
KNEW that would be a stupid waste of time. But no one ever even THOUGHT to
want to do that!<sigh>

I FINALLY figured it out MYSELF (no thanks to the help files!) and it's one
of the most useful features in DW for quickly checking workflow and
productivity to see what needs work...what's done, etc. But I think I may be
one of the FEW who even know it's there!

Just like selecting a range in Excel with key combos! There's GOTTA be a
way...somehow! And so there is! ;-)

First, stop thinking Word.<g> It's not really a range based application
despite what our Word folks would like us to believe. The Word programmers
really did do a bang up job making it adhere to the range model as well as
they did but it just ain't the same because it's still based, at its core,
on the old Bookmark("BookmarkID") Start:=x, End:=x model from Word 2.0.

Second, if you've already selected the first cell you want before going to
the Edit->GoTo dialog, the cell reference is already there. If you select
A1, all you have to add is :x28 and the range will be selected when you
press Okay.

Third, this might help but I can't be sure until I type it to you. If you
already know, I apologize. There are 3 basic ways to talk about a cell in
Excel (and 2 of them are default) in such a way that Excel will understand
you. The two defaults, using the first cell in any sheet as an example,
are $A$1 or A1. The third is to go to Tools->Options->General and choose
the "R1C1 References" option. This causes both rows and columns to be
number based. In that case, the range you're working with would be defined
as R1C1:R24C28 (X is the 24th letter of the alphabet so R is 24).

I don't know which you'll find easier but most of the folks who pass me
Excel data seem to stick with the default value. Programatically, using
numeric increments (For I =0 to whatever), the R1C1 notation is a lot
easier to translate but I suspect people get used to the alpha references
and find it a huge hurdle to transpose their work to the numeric
addressing.
