Read only will protect the document from being "saved" after editing.
Editing will appear normal until given the save command.
There will be nor restriction on doing a "save as" under another file name.

Subject: [mso] Protect a Word 2000 document?
Hello everyone-
I am trying to protect several Word 2000 documents. I am open and
willing to use Password Protection, but my preference would be simply to
turn off edit capability for these documents. (I won't have to remember
a password that way.) I don't see a way to do this.
When I try Password Protect, it is not sticking for me. After I close
Word, I can open up Word again, open the document, and start editing. I
would like for it to be a little more trouble to do editing, but not
impossible. Has anyone had any problems with Password not sticking
please? If so, what did you do to resolve it?
Or is setting the file to "Read Only" in attribute settings the best way
to go?
Thanks.
Robert
