[mso] Re: Problems Opening a Word Document

Oh boy, Susan...it sounds like corruption to me. I do have Office Recovery
software here that is *supposed* to recover corrupted Office files, but I've
had very minimal success with it. However, if you want to send me the 88kb
file from your hard drive, I can see if I can recover it for you. (of
course, if the contents are confidential, I understand if you don't want to
send it.) I can't promise anything becuz, like I said, my success with this
software has not been consistent.

Or, you could try File>Open, then choose "Recover Text from any file" in the
File Type dropdown at the bottom of the File Open box and see if you can at
least recover the text. However, be SURE to change that File Type before
you ever open any other file, becuz if you forget and save a file with that
setting, it will mess up that file. But, it's worth a shot to see if you
can at least recover the text in the file.

But, if you want me to try recovering it here, send it to me at
linda@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and I'll give it a shot. I'm heading out
the door in five minutes to shovel my driveway and get to work, but I should
be home around 3pm EST and could try it then.

Subject: [mso] Problems Opening a Word Document

Dear Listmembers,

I was wondering if you could help. I have been having problems opening a
word file that I had been working on. I had saved the file to my jumpdrive,
and then to my Mac hardrive, closed them, then unplugged the jumpdrive, but
when I went to open up the file I had been working on yesterday it would not
open (from my jumpdrive or my hardive).

When I try to open the file on my hardrive it says "convert file from" and
then has a list of options. Needless to say I've tried all the options, and
none of them seem to be working.

The strange thing is the file size says 4kb on the jumpdrive, but 88kb on
the hardrive (the latter sounds more accurate because it's around a 25/26
page document). I'm really worried because this is a very important document
and concerned that some of the information has gone missing.

I tried opening up the file in wordperfect but that doesn't work either.
I've also tried opening it buy inserting the text into a new blank document,
but to no avail...

I'm wondering if something happened when it was saving the file on/bewteen
the jumpdrive and the hardrive?

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks loads, Susan.
