Wait!
One thing you should understand before you go deleting the normal.old file.
ANY customization you did in Word before now will still be sitting in the
Normal.dot! If you created a custom toolbar, any autotext, any autocorrect
items (which are really in an ACL file, but are associated to this dot file
and you'll have to fix that link), any macros you've recorded or any default
font or margins you've set will now be trashed!!
If you did that kind of stuff...you can rescue those files from your old
normal.dot by using the organizer.
However, better than renaming the file just for a stuck image...it would be
wiser, if you think you have customization you could lose, is to search your
hard drive for your normal.dot file. But rather than just renaming
it...which kills all your "stuff" in there and creates a new blank one...you
RIGHT click the file and choose OPEN. Then you can remove the image from it
and just close/save the file. Then when you open a new doc...it won't have
the image.
Sorry, but I have so much stuff in my normal...there's no way I'm deleting
it! As was somewhat recently said...that's like blowing up your home to get
rid of an ant problem! The normal.dot can hold a lot of important
information and renaming/deleting it could cost some folks HOURS of work
recreating all they've done so far...and should not be done without this
warning!

Thank you so much. I finally have a blank doc1 again - it looks like
I can now delete the normal.old file sometime without a worry.
Thanks again,
