Hi Cathi,
I also would prefer not to be required to advance the slides manually, but I
don't know any other way to keep audio and slides in synch. You can get a
small wireless multimedia presenter to enable you to control the slides from a
distance of about 25 feet from your laptop. I use one from a company called
Targus. It has a built-in laser pointer.
<<One more question - I know I can connect my camera directly to my TV, is
there something I can use to connect my laptop to the TV >>
Before our club purchased an LCD projector ($1500), several years ago, I was
using a device called a "PC to TV Converter". We paid about $110, and it came
with a variety of cables. We used the cable that has a 15-pin "mini D"
connector to go from laptop to the converter box. A second ordinary video
cable goes from the converter to the TV. Our converter did not carry audio,
but we were able to use a separate set of (powered) stereo speakers connected
directly to the laptop in the usual way.
We found that the resolution of the TV set permitted a maximum of only about
14 or 15 lines with a max of about 40 characters per line of text on screen.
A quick Google search returned the following link which lists the same
converter for $81.75:

Please recognize that I am not recommending any particular source or any
particular model of converter. The link above is only to give you an example
of what's available.
We have strayed from issues related to MS Office products except to say that I
used the above set-up with PowerPoint in Office versions 2002 and 2003.
