Sorry for not answering Christine, but your original post and your =3D
answer came to my mail box at the same time. I have a solution for you
though, =3D if that makes up for the delay.
You need to combine two techniques to re-create your presentation. =3D
First, you need to save all of the text in your presentation to a text
file. =3D Then you need to pull that text file back in as an outline. =
Here
are the FAQs =3D to get you started, post back as you need more help:
Export Text to a text file (Mac or PC)
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00274.htm
Create a PowerPoint presentation from a plain text file

You might also find this one handy as you are working through the =3D
process:
Export Slide Number and Title Text to a text file

We figured out what the problem was. Whoever orginally created the
slides did not use any slide layout, but inserted text boxes manually
for titles. Therefore, there is no slide layout to apply. From what
I've been able to figure out, there is no way to actually apply the
slide master, the whole presentation will have to be copy and pasted
into a new presentation, by only copying and pasting the text.
