By the time I emailed the list for help yesterday Ray I was so
frustrated (about a lot of stuff coming down on me, not just the
transparency thing) that I did what I know how to do.  I played a bit
today with the PNG because it was new to me but completely forgot Word
Art. It works just great but part of what I was going for was a graphic
I could use over and over again which is what got me started with the
JPG in the first place but Word Art is probably what I SHOULD have used.
