Thanks for the reply.
I played around with the page after I sent my original message and discovered
the strange disconnect between what the column formatter was saying and what
the margin ruler was showing. Yes, the problem is solved by resetting the
single column width to 7.5 inches.
Thanks for taking the trouble to work this problem.
