Ok,  I reinstalled Powerpoint to jog my memory and it's where I said - the 
Mulitmedia tab.  Just right click your sound and choose Custom Animation and 
then click the Multimedia tab.  Put a checkmark next to Play using animation 
order and then check Continue Slide Show.
Finally, enter the number of slides you want the sound to continue through - in 
the Stop Playing section - After option.
