Well, Anne I DID answer the Outlook question before, but what I said was
install SP2, but it seems you have and Outlook's rules still aren't working
on Startup...I don't know why, cuz I thought that problem was resolved with
the SPs
Anyway, the workaround I used to use was to turn off automatic
send/receive....then when I turned on Outlook for the first time, I would
let it fully load, then hit the send/receive button...as long as it fully
loads, the rules should work fine. Sounds like Outlook is both loading
slowly AND not shutting off properly...and I'm wondering if you are using
Word as your email editor? If so, either that or some addin for Outlook
could be slowing it's startup/shutdown, or perhaps your antivirus
program?...that's about all I can guess...have you tried running Detect and
Repair from Outlook's Help Menu?
And, as far as I know, Word has NEVER closed the original Document 1 when
you either open a new template or an existing document or even a new
document. So, that's nothing new.
I'm assuming you mean the Task Pane in Word? If so, go to the View menu and
choose Task Pane...then near the bottom of it, there's a check box that you
can check so it will always show when you start Word.

Subject: [mso] Outlook probs and Word startup pane not functioning
Sent this a coupa weeks ago but other things have intervened and I don't
recall getting any replies to this - the problem is persisting and
becoming *really* annoying! What seems to happen with Outlook when it
crashes is that although the program stops OUTLOOK.EXE is still showing up
as running in the processes list of Task Manager.
And, all my message rules have gone back to not operating on Outlook
startup. Hence, I am getting loads of the Microsoft/Sven virus emails etc
that I had successfully put on block not that long ago.
As for Word, I don't know what's going on with it.
Help!
:(

Here's my prob for the day! LOL
I had Word (2002 SP2) set up to show the startup pane. I was having
problems with Outlook crashing so did an Office detect and repair. Now,
the Word startup pane isn't showing when it should even though it's still
set up to do so. Also, Word isn't automatically closing the Doc 1 it
creates when I go to a new template from a fresh run of the program.
No doubt there's a solution lurking deep in Tools> Options but a clue as
to where would be tremendous!
Thanks in anticipation
Anne
