[mso] Re: Outlook constantly prompting for password

I don't think this is an Outlook problem but I'll expalin anyway because
maybe others will point out how to get Outlook round it.

If you are in the UK these names will mean something. For years I had an
e-mail ISP at Cable & Wireless, a company which was sold, ultimately to
Boltblue but who allowed us to keep our old addresses for a long time. In
the end I changed it to ...@xxxxxxxxxxxx leaving my ...@xxxxxx active and
forwarding, but ultimately closed down the old one which had got into the
hands of far too many SPAMmers .

When I installed broadband, I decided to use BT., It all worked fine
including receiving e-mails, until I tried to send them. At that point,
after setting up Direct Debit payments, connecting, etc etc, I discovered
that I HAD to get a new .....@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx e-mail account because my
broadbansd wouldn't work with BT competitor ISPs. This was not to my mind
made clear in the contract and so I decided to "fight" and retained my old
e-mail, also because it would be a major hassle to let everyone know of the
change.

My Outlook is now set to receive normally via my old e-mail, but when I want
to send anything it prompts as you have found, and I have to enter my
...btinternet.com username and password before transmission takes place.

Subject: [mso] Outlook constantly prompting for password

I have Outlook 2003. It is set to check for mail every 60 seconds on 2
e-mail addresses. Often, for no apparent reason, a window pops up asking me
to enter my user name and password. The remember the password check box is
always cleared. I select the check box and click OK, but it prompts me again
and again. Sometimes I'm in the middle of typing something, and I look up
and find that I'm typing in the password box. There is nothing wrong with my
settings or e-mail server--I use the Test account settings button and it
prompts me again, but everything else works normally. I am able to send and
receive mail with no problems.

I keep my computer and Office completely updated.

Why does Outllok do this to me so often? This is definiely a bug. I just
want the Remember password check box selected. There is no reason for it to
magically clear itself.

Joel
