Steven, Ah ha! I misunderstood. Well, you can do the same in the preview pane, but I assume you are trying to avoid display of sneaky code at all. So, I don't think you can. But, I have been using some antispam add-ins that do have a toolbar button allowing you to view the message in text (to decide if it's spam without opening).
