[mso] One Week with Outlook 2007

Well it's been a week now since I installed Outlook 2007. It
works pretty much the same as previous versions. Still can't get the mails
to go in a indented descending order like Outlook Express, but since that
program is going by the way side (giving way to the add revenue generating
Mail Live Desktop), I figured I can live without that. I just sort by date
arrived now. The junk email filter is running nicely. It has caught some of
the more obvious crap, and only missed one or two that were. After some
tweaking it no longer grabs the ones that aren't. The option to minimize it
off the task bar is great! The new GUI is working quite nicely, though I
still feel like I've traveled back to the early days of AOL.

Though the above are just personal preferences, the horror
story is in the "Instant Search" feature. I'm one of those people that will
run a system into the ground before retiring it to being a Linux test box. I
figure this old PIII (Celeron 2.67 GHz) with 768 MBs of ram, GeForce FX 5700
Ultra with 128 VRAM, would last until the prices on hardware for Vista
dropped (spring/summer 20007). That was not the case with Windows Search
3.0 sucking up RAM like crazy every time a send and receive was done. One
couldn't even kill off the process for long, as Outlook seemed to re-sparked
it as soon as it was killed. This caused this box to slow to a crawl and a
stop quite a few times! Though to be honest MS does know about this, and
says the problem has been fixed for Vista.

So at the end of week one Outlook 2007 is still here
(longest any version of Outlook has lasted installed and used here), and
search 3.0 has gone one to meet the great "Add/Remove Program" deity of the
lost electrons.

O ya! The Colts and Bears Super Bowl!?! I can't wait to see
"Da Poodles" cry J
