[mso] Re: Office new version

LOL...go back and tell the clerk he/she is an idiot and should stop telling
people information that s/he OBVIOUSLY knows nothing about!<g>

First of all...no official name for the next version has been deciphered.
It's currently "code named" Office 12.

It's not even in Beta yet. Well, actually, it's just starting to go into
beta. They are starting to go out to beta team members.

You will be able to move up to the new version. The issue is that the file
type for the new version will be different, so...just as was the case when
moving to Outlook 2003, you will need to do conversions to "up" the format
of previous versions of files to the new version. You will not be able to
simply OPEN say 2003 docs in the new version, edit them, save them and then
reopen them in 2003. Just as is the case now if you use Outlook 2003. Older
PST files need to be converted up to the 2003 file format and can't go back
once converted...not backwards compatible.

A conversion filter will be available to convert files from 2002 and 2000.
But as far as the word is now, anyone with versions older than 2000, i.e.,
Word 97, will not be able to convert files to the new version without first
converting to a newer version. Office 97, 95 and 4 are just too old and no
longer supported.

And no...the new version will not be out next month!<lol> The current plan
is to have it read sometime next year. But when...will depend on the beta
testing. So even Microsoft doesn't know for sure, at this point, when the
new version will be out.

Subject: [mso] Office new version

I examined Office 2003 Pro boxes yesterday with the intent to buy one. The
clerk explained they were trying to unload them as quickly as they could
since Office 2007 is on the way, and suggested I wait for that version.
Office 2007? The clerk suggested I wait because Office 2003 was not
upgradeable to any future Office version. According to the clerk, it comes
out the week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 4 (Next week), so I did not buy Office 2003.
I have not seen anything on the Internet about it. Can anyone tell me if
this is true please?

Thank you.

Robert
