Well, I'm a Word specialist and I help support this group. So if you have
any questions about Word/macros...you can ask here. I also support a group
that is Word ONLY. You can find that group listed on my RESOURCES page on
MouseTrax. See www.mousetrax.com/resources.html or just click the RESOURCES
button under SUPPORT at MouseTrax.com. You'll find all my favorite places,
there.

Now I don't use Excel, so I can't recommend a good Excel group. However,
this group is for all of Office and Linda Johnson, the owner of this group,
happens to be an Excel guru and a certified Microsoft Office Specialist
(MSO). Granted, she's away on vacation right now...but she and several
others on this list can generally answer your Excel Qs.

However, if you can't get the answers through this or similar support
groups...yes, you can always fall back to the free Microsoft newsgroups. No
need to "join" them, per se...you just go there and over 1200 Microsoft MVP,
as well as thousands of other folks who are doing the same stuff as you
are...hang out in there, 24x7, answering Qs for peers. So just go
there...drill down into the area of interest you have and post a question.
Then go back and you'll probably have an answer very soon.

Here's an article I wrote with more details:
http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=124

It explains more about how to get support help and also explains more about
the MS Newsgroups. If you decide you WOULD like to hang out there often, in
one of the special user groups...to learn more by reading posts/answers from
your peers, I would suggest that you use a Newsreader and set up a link to
the newsgroups (NGs) so that you can more easily get to them and set
"watches" to keep an eye on threads/conversations you're particularly
interested in. Outlook Express is a newsreader. So you can use that and just
set up a news account (just like a mail account) and just point the server
to: msnews.microsoft.com to see all the group. Then "subscribe" to those
you're interested in. That's just kinda like setting them to your FAVORITES.
You can easily change that anytime. But a newsreader gives you greater
flexibility for keeping track of message versus using a browser through the
other URL I provided. That one is just faster when you don't know what
you're doing and don't want to spend time setting up a link.

Hope this helps...good luck!

Dian-
You suggested that someone go to:
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups
for help.

I am wondering, does that also mean you are aware of a specialized group
where one can ask questions similar to the MS_Excel group? I am beginning to
think joining such a group for MS Word would be of benefit to me. My
questions primarily would center on Macros. I don't know, maybe the group
you suggested is the best one?

Thank you.

Robert
