No kidding. My high school English teacher tried in vain to correct this. 
When she caught someone doing that, they had to write on red paper for a 
week instead the regular white paper. She said it showed the rest of the 
class who she caught red handed. I may have been one of the few who enjoyed 
her. Most students did not like her- her spelling tests were 800 words per 
week instead of the normal 15 or 20 other teachers gave.

Woe the student whose parent notices a +big+ stack of red papers on 
parents' night!

At the end of the week, the student with the highest stack of red papers 
had to do "weekend homework" while the rest of us were rewarded with a 
homework-free weekend.
